  • Lila and George, you watched a bird fly into the backstop at school and die.  You were fascinated.  We looked at the bird for a while, then decided to dig a grave and bury it.  You were both so caring and sweet.
  • Katie, we were toying with the idea of you staying home and hanging out with me, but decided you should probably go to school.  Our fantasy day included watching Netflix while snuggling on my bed, getting butter chicken from our favorite Indian place, and relaxing the day away.  Sounds heavenly.
  • Autumn is in full bloom right now.  I love it.  The air is crisp, the sun still has warmth, the colors are amazing and the light is beautiful.  Lila, you're very proud of the poem you learned:
         Red and orange
        Yellow and brown,
         Autumn leaves
         Come falling down
  • George, you and I had another quiet, lovely day at home.  You LOVE being with me.  You're always sad when our time comes to an end.
  • We played at the school for over an hour after it ended.  Lila, there were three kids who came running up to you and were excited to see you.  You tell me that you're having a hard time making friends at kindergarten, but from what I saw today, it looks like you have plenty of people who like you and want to play with you.
  • Jane, you harvested your yams after school.  We were all curious and excited about what had happened over the summer.  You got two tiny little yams.  They were adorable.  You cooked them up (all four mouthfuls!), then mashed them with butter and salt and pepper. You were just about to dig in when you dropped the bowl and most of them spilled out onto the floor.  You still ate what remained and said it was delicious.  Your first harvest!  Congratulations.  Maybe next time we'll get more than a mouthful of food for a summer's worth of work.
  • George, we received your bday present in the mail today.  It's a whole pile of super hero lego guys.  What I didn't realize when I ordered it was that we would have to assemble them.  Jane, Katie and I sat on my bed and watched a show while we built them tonight.  We only got about half way through because it was so difficult to attach the arms, our thumbs are aching.  We'll have to have a second assembly party after we heal.  Good thing we started early and didn't procrastinate as per my usual.
