down in the dumps
- We played at Katie's school this morning. Lila, you blew bubbles and George popped them
- For some reason, I wore flip flops this morning. Where was my head? I ended up standing in a snowy field freezing.
- George, you've started dressing yourself. Matching shoes is not your forte
- George, you dressed yourself in a dress this morning, then were too shy(?)/embarrassed(?)/self conscious (?) to come out of your room. You changed into pants and a shirt. We all talked about it at breakfast and assured you that anyone can wear whatever they want. Jane and Katie assured you that lots of boys around the world wear dresses and it's normal (like Maui in Moana). Girls can wear pants and dresses and boys can wear pants and dresses. When we came home from taking the girls to school you changed back into your dress. What happened? Did someone say something to you? Are societal norms expressed so strongly that you just "knew"? In any case, it made me sad that you didn't feel free to just like what you like and wear what you want to wear. I hope that you can just be you, and never feel pressured to be anything else.
- George, you were quite subdued today. Maybe you're not feeling well?
- Lila, you remarked today "maybe someday I'll have a Ina" (meaning, one day you'll have someone who loves you so much)
- Lila, you made a snack for you and George today. It consisted of cherry tomatoes and red grapes all mixed together in a container. You sat in front of the fire and enjoyed the heck out of it
- Katie, you read your book in the rocking chair in my room. I specifically placed that chair there in hopes that you guys would hang out with me while I worked on the computer. I appreciated your (silent) company
