merry christmas!
George, you woke up at 7:30 this morning. This has to be a record for you! You’re usually up at 6:00 or 6:30 so I was expecting you to be up super early today to see what Santa had brought. Lila, you woke up around 8:00.
On the other hand, Auntie Jenny wasn’t quite as lucky. Jack was awake at 4:45. Keegan was up around 6:30. Poor kids had to wait around for quite a while before their cousins emerged from the basement.
The present opening was chaotic and fun. Lila, you went and sat in the dining room to open your gifts in a more peaceful manner. You carefully opened each one and thanked each person. You were delighted with each and every one.
George, you were a little less organized. Rip, tear, shred, shriek with joy…and repeat. You were so happy to open your American Girl doll. She was everything you thought she would be. I’m so pleased Auntie Shari gave you Walter the Farting Dog. It makes the most incredible farting sounds.
Jane and Katie it’s interesting to watch you as teenagers. You were still excited, but also a little sleepy. Jane, you had no idea what a weighted blanket was, but I put it together and you tried it out and were sold immediately. You said you’re never going to get out of bed. I hope it helps you feel relaxed and gives you good sleeps.
Katie, you were SO “surprised” with your ticket to Calgary. Your teacher had actually spoiled the surprise after I had emailed them to ask about exam week in January. The only thing that was a surprise was the actual dates of your flights. I also gave you some soccer pants that you’ve been wanting for a while.
Daddy and I never exchange gifts. I hot him a few little things for his stocking and he got me a Starbucks card, which is a long standing joke in our house. Yet, every year I count on getting one and happily use it.
Auntie Jenny decided we would take it easy today and nibble on appetizers and left overs all day. We made the crab dip recipe that Uncle Rick and Auntie Maria had brought to our house a couple years ago. So darn good. I also planned on making cheese sauce, but never quite got around to it…and there was already quite a lot of cheese because Auntie Shari had made some awesome cheese balls.
Jack and Keegan left at noon to spend the night with their daddy. It got pretty quiet around here. Everyone was playing with their new things and relaxing.
We had a quiet evening, then played Estevan Rummy. It was the longest game in the history of the world. It took us over three hours. And of course, we all shared the common goal of not letting Shari win. As long as Shari doesn't win, everyone is a winner.
All in all, it was a very nice Christmas day spent with people we love.
