boxing day
We had another lazy day today. I slept until 10:30 which is a minor miracle. Daddy got up early with the babies.
Jack and Keegan came back home at noon. Jack’s little friend came over and all the boys played some hockey in the carport. Daddy was the goalie. He’s feeling pretty confident in his goal tending skills. He’s thinking of switching positions.
Lila, you have a big ouchie on your arm. It started as a rug burn from school, but I think you’re allergic to the adhesive on bandages, so it turned into something much bigger. You were fussing so much about me cleaning it and looking at it, that I finally came up with the idea to soak it in warm salt water in the bathroom downstairs while you watch Netflix on my phone. We managed to get it all cleaned up, then I got some gauze to put on the wound and then wrapped it with a tensor bandage so there wasn’t any adhesive touching your skin. Hopefully we can get it healed up pretty quick. You seem to be susceptible to skin irritation and infections.
There was a little skiff of snow today. George and Delilah, you were so happy so see it!
Auntie Jenny made the most delicious eggnog ever. Here’s the recipe:
12 large eggs
1 pound of sugar
1 pint half-n-half
1 pint whole milk
1 pint heavy cream
1 cup dark spiced rum
1 cup cognac
1 cup bourbon
1 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 tsp kosher salt
Separate the eggs and store the whites for another purpose
Beat the yolks with the sugar and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl until the misture lightens in color and falls off the whisk in a solid “ribbon”
Combine dairy, booze and salt in a second bowl or pitcher and then slowly beat into the egg mixture.
Move to a large glass jar (or a couple of smaller ones) and store in the fridge for a minimum of 2 weeks. A month would be better, and two better still.
Serve in mugs or cups topped with a little extra nutmeg grated right on top.

Jane, you started to work on your online Spanish course today. You have a bit of work you need to complete over the holidays. I was pleased to see you working away on it.
Lila, you were miserable, so I got you to lay down for a nap. You slept for about three hours and woke up even more cranky than before you slept. You grouched at everyone who dared to come near the door of the bedroom. We were all scared to go in there. I eventually gathered my courage and went in to snuggle with you for a bit. You started to cheer up, then decided to come upstairs. Suddenly you morphed into the funny sweet Yiya we all know and love. You rocked the evening. You chatted and joked and colored and played. You also stayed up until midnight. You and Keegan snuggled on the couch and watched Netflix while the adults played cards.
We played Estevan rummy again tonight. Jane, you won by a long shot. Wow. No one was even close.
George, you woke up after Lila went to bed and came and hung out with me and the other ladies as we talked. You were so cute. I loved holding you and snuggling you on my lap. You won’t fit on my lap too much longer, so I’m going to take every opportunity I can get.
