gettin' down & dirty

gettin' down & dirty
  • Lila, you were wearing sunglasses and sucking on a soother while you played with beads.  You didn't offer an explanation, and I didn't ask.
  • Jane, you had a massage this morning.  You've been looking forward to it for a long time.  You saw Chung, who is my favorite at the moment.  I picked you up after and you were completely blissed out.
  • Jane, we went to the bank to get you all set up with a debit card and online access.  Big step towards your financial independence.  I'm so happy for you!  You're working and earning your own money.  You have goals and a plan for your money.  It's well thought out and so mature and reasonable.  I'm proud of you.
  • Jane, we stopped in at Tim Horton's on the way home from the bank.  You wanted to test out your new debit card, and I wanted to have breakfast.  We sat and ate and chatted for a good long while.  We discussed what I should do with all my "free time" next year when George is in school. You asked me what my parents never let me do when I was a teenager, because now was the time to do it.  I said, "have a boyfriend?"  You rolled your eyes and were like, "Oh my god mom!"  Hahaha.  Cracked me up.  Then we had an interesting discussion about colour theory and decided I should take a course in it.  It would benefit us both.  Jane, I LOVED talking to you.  You're so interesting and sweet and smart.  I was sad to have to cut it short, but I needed to get home.
  • George and Lila, we went to Rochester Park and met my friend Anna and her kids.  It's really hot today, so the shady, breezy, waterpark was a little bit of heaven.  You guys got along so well.  It was funny because I warned Anna that you two might stick to yourselves, but you had the best time with them.
  • You guys got so incredibly dirty.  You'd run through the spray park to get wet, then roll around in the sand to get all muddy.  At one point I looked over and you were making sand angels.  When we left I did my best to wipe  you down, but there was sand stuck in ALL the places.  Wow.  You're very thorough.  Lol.
  • As we drove away from the park, you asked me if you could play with them tomorrow and the next tomorrow and the next tomorrow and the next tomorrow.
  • Katie, you made dinner tonight.  Hotdogs and potato salad.  A perfect meal for a hot summer day.
  • Katie, you're pretty excited about your birthday.  You've been researching poetry books like crazy the last few weeks, and have compiled a list of your most wanted items.
  • Our condo is so hot in this weather.  I've been researching air conditioners, but so far I've gotten a big fat no from daddy.  I am undeterred.  There isn't much that can stop me when I've got my sights set on something.   I'm going to make a kick ass presentation for both him and the strata.  One of the slides will say, "Happy wife, happy life" in BIG BOLD letters.
  • Lila, I made pie crusts tonight and you helped me.  You made a little birthday cake and loved blowing out the candle as I sang Happy Birthday to you.
