"diaria"
  • George and Lila, you're so happy to be here playing with David.  The three of you were up bright and early, turning the living room into a wrestling arena.  Those poor couch cushions have survived a lot of kids doing a lot of weird things with them.
  • Lila, Grandma invited you out to the greenhouse.  You were so happy.  You must have inherited your love of plants from grandma.  There are a few tomatoes that were almost ripe and grandma said you can pick them toward the end of the week.  There are few foods you love more than tomatoes.  Grandma also started a new tomato plant for you to take home.  You're pretty excited.
  • George, you and David came out to the greenhouse too, but your visit wasn't quite as thoughtful and observant.  You barged in, laughed at the bedpan, made some potty jokes, then ran out again.
  • Grandma has a box of journals and gave one to each of you.  Lila, you're super proud of yours.  You've noticed that Jane and Katie have diaries and they're super special and top secret.  At one point in the afternoon, you wanted to go downstairs, but I stopped you because daddy and uncle Dan were both sleeping down there.  You stared at me with your dark stormy eyes, put your hands on your hips, stomped your little foot down and told me, "but I have to go and get my diaria."  I didn't dare laugh until you had reached the bottom of the stairs.  Daddy warned everyone against correcting you because it's just so funny.  George has now started calling his a diaria as well.
  • Jane and Katie, Auntie Becca took you and Val and James into town for a treat.  You guys all got massive ultra huge slurpees.  They must have been about two liters each.  You guys couldn't get anywhere close to finishing them.  The babies were happy to help you out when you got home.
  • For the rest of the day, we didn't really see you big kids at all.  You were down in the big bedroom playing cards and listening to music and telling secrets and giggling.
  • We took you guys for a walk down along the lake this evening.  It was windy and cold, but George, that didn't stop you from heading straight into the water.  You kept your jacket on because you said it would protect you.  Silly boy.
  • Lila, you sat down at the water and "wrote" in your diary with a feather.
  • I vowed to relax this week, so I spent the day lounging around playing ridiculous amounts of Candy Crush.  I find it very soothing.
  • I made dinner tonight.  A HUGE pot of spaghetti and salad.  There's enough left over for at least three more lunches.  I must have been planning amounts based on the Matsuda boys :)
  • Katie, you came upstairs around 9:00 and asked grandma if she wanted to play cards with you.  It was pretty cute.  You're a sweet little gal, Katie Bean.  The other kids eventually came up and joined it, and you kids played cards with grandma until 12:30 in the morning.  Such fun!
