goodnight song
- I woke up early this morning. Katie, you were the first to come over and say hello. You usually seek me out first thing when you get up. We got up and I started doing my daily sun salute in front of the fire. One by one, each of you woke up and joined me at the fire. By 7:00 everyone was with me, all snuggly and warm. I love to feel your warm sleepy little bodies curled into mine. It's one of the things I'll miss most when I don't have little ones in the house anymore.
- Lila, today you were the grumpiest I've ever seen you. I wish I had a photo of you standing in line waiting outside your classroom. You had the biggest pout and scowl. Your little arms were crossed and you were glaring at the world. Your teacher saw you and laughed a little because it was pretty dramatic. I decided to pick you up after lunch. You were super happy with that.
- George and Lila, I took you to Blue Mountain Park to play. It's your very favorite playground. It was great to be out and about with the two of you. Just like old times.
- Daddy worked late, then came home and marked all evening. I've never seen this teacher side of him before. He was pretty grumpy and a little scary, so we all kinda left him alone and let him do his thing.
- Jane and Katie, you were laughing hysterically at something or other you were watching. I don't even know what it was, but I don't even care because the sound of you two laughing and enjoying something together was almost more than my mommy heart could handle. I sat at my desk and closed my eyes and tried to memorize it so I can carry it somewhere inside my heart for the rest of my life. You guys are obsessed with slime right now. It's kind of driving me crazy, but it keeps you busy, so it's fine.
- Lila, you had a long bubble bath by yourself this evening and that seemed to lift your spirits somewhat. You got dressed in your snuggliest pajamas and made a bed on the floor with your favorite blankies. As you settled in, you asked to phone Grandma Esther so she could sing you the goodnight song. It was the cutest thing. Thankfully grandma was home and could do that for you. We put the phone on speaker and rested it beside you on your pillow. As soon as she began to sing, you closed your eyes and sucked your thumb. It was pretty special. You love your grandma so much.
