  • Katie, today was the last day you had your student teacher in your class.  You impress me with your consistently thoughtful gestures towards your teachers.  You wrote her a lovely card that listed the specific things you love about her, and then you and your friends made a giant card for the whole class to sign.  You were sad to say goodbye to her.  You thought she was pretty great.
  • Jane, you texted me to tell me that you had written a huge science test and thought you had aced it.  So nice to hear.  I didn't even know you had a test today.  You didn't study at all.  Your memory is pretty incredible.  I can't even believe how well you do in school for the amount of effort you put into it.  You brought home your first report card this evening. You did well, as usual.  Just the expected comments about not handing stuff in.  When you're interested in a subject, you really care.  When you're not interested, you really don't care.  Your report cards don't mean a whole lot to us.  We realized a long time ago that you ace the subjects you care about and you really don't give a crap about the subjects you don't like...and hence, don't put in any effort.  This will most likely serve you well in life, as long as you are doing something you care about.  I hope you keep following your curiosity and find that magical Something that captivates your mind and soul.
  • Lila, you were a mess today.  I finally got you to your classroom after a major struggle this morning.  As I left, I patted your teacher and wished her luck.  Gosh, you are a force of nature.  Wow.  Daddy says that you're a mini Missy.  If that's the case, I'm in trouble.  Big trouble.  We're all in trouble.
  • George and Lila, you both wore pajamas all day.  I'm pretty good at picking my battles, and I've decided clothes isn't one of them.  I'd rather save my battles for teaching you how to be kind and respectful.  I don't know how well I'm doing in that department, but I'm trying my best.
  • It wasn't raining, so we stayed as long as we could after school, until it started to get dark.  You played with your friends for a while, then when they left, we stayed and dug in the sand and played in the puddles.  It was so good to be outside again after such a long stretch of rain.
  • Daddy has been working late a lot the last few weeks.  We usually go ahead and eat without him because we have activities we have to get ready for.  I actually enjoy the dinners alone with you guys.  I love how you sit around the table and talk about your days.  Everyone takes a turn telling their stories.  It's nice for me to have that time alone with you, listening to all your things.  For some reason, it's different when daddy's home.  I don't know why, but it definitely is.
  • George, thanks to Taylor Swift and her single "Gorgeous," you tell me that I'm gorgeous about 80 times a day.  I don't object.  You also say your lego guys and ninjas are gorgeous...so...ya.   But whatever, I chose to believe you think I'm gorgeous.
  • Katie, you love corny jokes.  I was sitting in the kitchen folding laundry.  You walked in, and very quietly said, "We don't have toe tips, but we can tip toe."  It was so unexpected and random, I couldn't stop laughing.  You then delivered this gem, "If Apple made a car, would it have Windows?"  And then you left the kitchen as quietly as you came in.
