smitty's farewell lunch
  • Auntie Becca and Uncle Dan left this morning.  They have a long trip ahead of them and always hit the road pretty early.  George, before they left I asked you and David to clean up the blocks in the office.  Wow.  What a process.  But after some pouting, encouragement, help and coaxing, you got the job done.
  • Lila, grandma rooted a tomato plant for you.  You got to pot it.  How exciting!  You're thrilled with the prospect of having your very own tomatoes to eat whenever you want.
  • We went to Smitty's for our traditional farewell lunch.  I asked you guys if you wanted to try a burger place Auntie Pam had told us about, but no...it had to be Smitty's.  I love our tradition.  And I love it even more that you love our tradition.
  • George, you were so crazy while we were eating.  You were trying to force feed your fries to Katie.  It was all pretty silly.  Now I remember why I separated you two at our family dinner table.
  • Smitty's has to be the last restaurant on earth to use written paper bills.  It's fascinating.
  • Jane, you look so tired.  There are not a lot of opportunities for alone time at grandma's house.  You're really looking forward to getting home to your bed and your robe and your solitude.
  • Our trip home was uneventful, except that I drove instead of daddy. Once again he felt so tired and pulled over because he was nodding off.  We drove straight through from 100 Mile to home.  It was a quick trip.  You were all sleeping most of the time.
  • Everyone was so happy to be home.  There really is no place like home.  Lila, you told me that you just love our house, but you just wish it had a downstairs so you could play with Georgie down there.
  • Our kitty was so happy to see us.   I was worried that Elise would die while we were gone.  I know that we'll have to make a decision soon about what to do with her.  She's obviously going downhill, but I just don't want to have to make the choice to put her down or not.
