head in the clouds

head in the clouds
  • The schools were closed today, so it was the start of a four day weekend.  George, your internal alarm clock hasn't quite reset yet since the time change, so you were up at 5:30.  Hopefully it corrects itself soon!
  • Lila, you're such a busy person.  Always making, building, creating, changing, moving, talking, bossing, squawking, laughing, and full of life.  Never a dull moment around you.  You do so many things without a word of explanation.  Little notes show up around the house, you come out of  your room wearing a fantastical outfit, an amazing mess explodes in the living room.  We're so used to it, we usually don't even say anything...and neither do you.  I would love to see what goes on in that little mind of yours.  Seems rather fantastic.
  • Katie, after lunch we met Annika and her doggy at the school to hang out and play.  She's such a nice friend for you.  George and Lila adore her.  They vie for her attention and lavish her with kisses and hugs.  Lila told her she loves her.
  • Jane, you love corn chowder.  It's one of your all time favorite meals.  I taught you how to make it tonight.  Well, actually I wrote out my recipe because I know you like to be alone when you cook. You played loud music and sang while you cooked (in your robe, of course!).  I forgot to take a photo, but I do have a video.  Lol.  You're adorable.  The soup was great.
  • George, as we were eating you were complimenting Jane's cooking.  And then you put your little hand on her arm and looked at her and asked with incredible sincerity and curiosity, "Did you enjoy making this soup, Jane?"  It was so cute.  You're a thoughtful little guy sometimes.
  • Lila, you announced at dinner that you learned in kindergarten "how to make love."  We stopped in an awkward silence and listened, as we were all quite interested in your story.  You continued, "you can hug, you can share, you can say nice things etc.  And THAT'S how you make love."
  • Jane, you're babysitting tonight, and Daddy was cleaning Gains, so Katie and I had a nice quiet evening.  I listened to a podcast and she watched one of her shows.  It's such a luxury to be alone.  We both enjoyed it very much.
  • Katie you made brownies tonight.  In fact, I can smell them as I'm writing this.  I'm starting to drool.  They're still cooling, but it's hard to wait!
  • I listened to Brene Brown's Parenting Manifesto tonight on a podcast.  It's wonderful.  I'd like to print it and hang it in our kitchen.  It's how I want to parent.  This is the link to the free poster download from her website: http://brenebrown.com/downloads/
